Support the KHLF and Kalaeloa Heritage Park!

Aloha friends and supporters of the Kalaeloa Heritage and Legacy Foundation (KHLF) and the Kalaeloa Heritage Park (Park).

Please show your support of the KHLF and the Park by presenting your oral testimony to the Hawai'i Community Development Authority (HCDA) Board of Directors at the Wednesday 6 March 2019 Board meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting please submit your written testimony to the Board via the HCDA website.

Here is some sample language you can use/modify for your written testimony:

"My name is _________ and I am a _________.  I am writing in support of a Stewardship Agreement between the HCDA and the Kalaeloa Heritage and Legacy Foundation so that it can continue its mission to preserve and protect the cultural, historical, and archaeological landscape of Kalaeloa through the operation of the Kalaeloa Heritage Park.

A Stewardship Agreement between the HCDA and KHLF would be a mutually beneficial way of continuing the mission of the Kalaeloa Heritage and Legacy Foundation to malama the Park and the HCDA's commitment to ensure that the Park remains a place that 1) stewards and preserves the Native Hawaiian cultural sites and landscape of Kalaeloa, and 2) allows the community to learn about cultural traditions and practices to ensure preservation of the Native Hawaiian culture.

The Park is an important educational resource for many area schools and colleges/universities.  The Park provides guided tours of the cultural, historical, and archaeological features of Kalaeloa to over a thousand visitors each year.  The Park hosts various cultural activities, such as featherwork workshops, place names of Kapolei workshops, and malama 'aina community workdays.  Park staff work tirelessly to preserve and protect the irreplaceable cultural, historical, and archaeological structures left by the Native Hawaiians in Kalaeloa.
