Hawaii Bicycling League

by Shad KaneOn Saturday, February 4 the Hawaii Bicycling League came to visit us at the Kalaeloa Heritage Park.  It was a memorable day to see so many bicycles arrive at the park from various parts of O’ahu. They gathered at Blaisdell Park and the West Loch Shoreline Park for their trip to the Park.  A little about this organization.  The Hawaii Bicycling League is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1975. Their Mission is to support not just recreational cycling but enable more people to ride bicycles for health and transportation through advocacy, education, and events.Each year the Hawaii Bicycle League hosts several large events, like the Honolulu Century Ride and Haleiwa Metric Century Ride. They also hold numerous smaller events such as Bike Month and Oahu Bike Count. The Hawaii Bicycling League receives grants from both the City & County of Honolulu as well as the Department of Transportation to hold educational workshops and presentations to advance their mission. These include the bike education programs to teach 4th graders, workshops for all ages, and presentations on sharing the road with all users.As Oahu’s oldest and largest cycling organization, Hawaii Bicycling League has a strong voice with local and state agencies. They advocate for positive changes that will help make Hawaii a cycling paradise and encourage more people to ride bicycles.  We look forward to seeing them again at the Heritage Park in the future.
