Certificate of Appreciation - Kapolei Veterans Center

On January 31, 2017 the Kapolei Veterans Center presented one of our board members and Facilities Manager, Shad Kane, with a “Certificate of Appreciation”.  This certificate was awarded to Mr. Kane in keeping with the partnership between the Kapolei Veterans Center and the Kalaeloa Heritage and Legacy Foundation.  The certificate was awarded to Shad for his support of Veterans, Service Members and their families.  It was presented by Mr. Edmond De Guzman, Director of the West Oahu Vet Center in the presence of their office staff.  However It is as important to mention that the Kalaeloa Heritage and Legacy Foundation is as appreciative of the Kapolei Veterans Center for this extraordinary partnership.  This partnership has been in place for only 2 years and Mr. De Guzman and his members contribution to the Kalaeloa Heritage Park is beyond measure.   Their contributions can be found in many ways.  It is not just their participation and help on our community workdays but their active volunteer participation in the operations of the park.  Just a few examples are Kapolei Veterans Center member Seann Tommy Scott serving as the parks Security Manager.  He makes daily checks of all the locked gates to make certain there are no intrusions or trespassing.  Veteran Gary Cera serves as the park’s Equipment Manager with the repair and maintenance of all our equipment as a volunteer.  Gary also waters the plants in the parks interpretive area and hand pulls weeds on a weekly basis.  Former Marine Corps Gunny Sergeant Ron Schaedel is our trail blazer removing kiawe trees.  Veteran Kalani Fontanilla is a dedicated volunteer who routinely participates in our monthly community workdays.  The Kapolei Vet Center routinely provides volunteer assistance at all our monthly community workdays.  At the January 28 community workday members from the Kapolei Vet Center who provided community volunteer service were Tommy Scott, Cameron Apostol-Chinn, Kalani Fontanilla and several others who participated as a result of their work with the veterans center.  This extraordinary partnership between the Kalaeloa Heritage and Legacy Foundation, Facilities Manager Shad Kane and the Kapolei Vet Center would not have happened without the support of Mr. Edmond De Guzman, the Director of the West Oahu Vet Center.  It is to him that we want to say a big mahalo.
