Chuck Chambers - Park Volunteer

chuckilOftentimes we run into some interesting people at Kalaeloa Heritage Park and I find a need to say something about them. The reason I find it interesting is because one of the stories associated with the heritage park is a story of travel. A story of migrations and how we see ourselves. The person I want to introduce you to is one of our dedicated volunteers. His name is Chuck Chambers.Chuck is one or our newest volunteers at Kalaeloa Heritage Park. He grew up in Indiana but acquired a taste for the tropics as a Peace Corps teacher in Liberia, West Africa. He worked as an administrator and epidemiologist for 28 years at Galveston County Health District in Texas. Chuck and his wife Christine moved to Tucson, Arizona where they lived for seven years before retiring again and moving to Holualoa on Hawaii Island. They had a big yard with coffee, avocadoes, bananas, pineapples, macadamias, and other crops. It became too much work and they moved to Makakilo in 2015. Their son Kurt still lives in Kona. Chuck's current hobbies include reading, walking, swimming, gardening and sightseeing. He doesn’t say much but that is one of the qualities of interesting people. You can find Chuck every Sunday watering plants at the park. That is who he is ……………in this new city of Kapolei.
